Andrew Williams

Andrew Williams is one of Australia’s most distinguished baritones, celebrated for his powerful performances and compelling stage presence.

In 2024, he performed as Marcello on Opera Australia’s national tour of La Bohème and covered the role of Crébillon in La Rondine at La Scala.

His main stage debut at the Sydney Opera House came in 2023, where he portrayed Masetto in Sir David McVicar’s production of Don Giovanni with Opera Australia, a performance praised for its “interestingly complex take” (Bachtrack, Alex Nguyen, 2023). That same season at OA, he also covered the roles of Marcello in La Bohème and Morales in Carmen.In recent years, Andrew has performed some of opera’s most beloved roles, including Escamillo in Carmen, Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and regularly appears in Opera Australia’s Great Opera Hits at the Sydney Opera House.

He has received high acclaim in competition as well, winning the Lady Fairfax La Scala Award from the Opera Foundation for Young Australians in 2023. As a finalist for the German-Australian Opera Grant, he received an Encouragement Prize in 2020, and in 2018, he won the Foundation Prize in the Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Bel Canto Award.Andrew was a member of Opera Australia’s Moffatt Oxenbould Young Artist Program from 2022 to 2023, where he refined his technique and artistry under the mentorship of leading industry professionals. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance and an Advanced Diploma of Opera from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, both completed on scholarship.
