Ervin Ahmeti

Albanian tenor Ervin Ahmeti is one of the most promising young light lyric tenors of his generation. Gifted with an elegant bel canto technique, a brilliant upper register and an engaging stage presence, he has rapidly attracted attention through his performances in the Mozart, Rossini and Italian lyric repertoires. Since joining OperAvenir, the young artists programme of Theater Basel, he has established himself as an exciting emerging talent on the European operatic scene.

Born in Shkodër, Albania, Ervin Ahmeti began singing at the age of six. His exceptional musical gifts became evident early on when, at just twelve years old, he won First Prize at the Bilbilat e Vegjël të Shkodrës Këndojnë singing competition. He subsequently received several years of intensive bel canto training in Albania before continuing his studies in Germany.

Since 2019, he has studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig, where he has been mentored by Prof. Berthold Schmid and Kammersänger Prof. Roland Schubert. Since 2021, he has been awarded the prestigious Deutschlandstipendium, recognising his outstanding artistic achievements.

From January to June 2025, Ervin Ahmeti was a member of the Opernstudio Chemnitz, where he appeared as Un Bohémien in Charpentier’s Louise, Stefan Koltay in Paul Abraham’s Viktoria und ihr Husar, and Gastone in Verdi’s La traviata. During the same season he also appeared at Theater Altenburg Gera as Der lyrische Tenor in Johnson’s Riemannoper.

In September 2025, he joined OperAvenir, the prestigious young artists programme of Theater Basel. There he immediately took on important assignments both within the studio and on the company’s main stage, including Prince Ramiro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Malcolm in Verdi’s Macbeth, Jack in Weill’s Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny, and Gastone in La traviata. During the 2026–2027 season, he expands his repertoire further with Arturo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Basilio and Don Curzio in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, and Tonio in Donizetti’s La fille du régiment.

While still a student in Leipzig, Ervin gained extensive stage experience in productions of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Künneke’s Der Vetter aus Dingsda, Orff’s Die Kluge, Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Humperdinck’s Dornröschen and Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen. At the Oper Leipzig, he also appeared in Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier as the Haushofmeister and in Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk as the Coachman.

Combining youthful vocal brilliance, stylistic elegance and an instinctive flair for the lyric tenor repertoire, Ervin Ahmeti is rapidly establishing himself as one of the most exciting young voices to emerge from the new generation of European singers. His expanding repertoire and early successes point towards a distinguished international career in the bel canto, Mozart and French lyric repertoire.
