Marie-Juliette Ghazarian

French mezzo-soprano Marie-Juliette Ghazarian was born in Paris. She began her musical studies at the age of six and after studying the harpsichord for twelve years and a Bachelor Degree in Litterature and Media at La Sorbonne, she focused on her vocal studies at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Marcel Vanaud, Jean-François Rouchon and Marianne Pousseur. She obtained her Master Degree there with Great Distinction in June 2022.

Simultaneously to her studies, she integrated the MMAcademy of the Royal Theater of La Monnaie / De Munt in 2018, which allowed her to take part in prestigious productions under the baton of great conductors such as Evelino Pidò, Kazushi Ōno, Alain Altinoglu and directors such as Romeo Castellucci or Krzysztof Warlikowski. Meanwhile she has broke out onto the rank of MMAcademy-Laureate. From September 2022 she has also been an Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in the class of Sophie Koch, Stéphane Degout and José van Dam.

In 2018, she won the Vocation Prize of the New Talents of Lyrical Art Competition of Belgium, followed in 2019 by the Third Prize of the Young Talents Category of the National Operetta Competition of Brussels. In 2021 and 2022, she was the recipient of the Patrimony Prize of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.

Marie-Juliette made her stage debut in November 2018 as Rick / I Was Looking at the Ceiling and then I saw the Sky by John Adams at the National Theater of Brussels, the Royal Opera House of Liège and the Athénée Theatre in Paris. With the Opera Studio of Charleroi she sang Carmen, Dorabella / Così fan tutte and Zweite Dame / Die Zauberflöte. During the  2023-2024 season, she sang Dritte Dame / Die Zauberflöte at the Royal Opera of Wallonie, the Abuela in the world premiere of Frank Nuyts’ chamber opera Cambio madre por moto, The Page / Salome at the Opéra de Metz and Suzuki / Madama Butterfly with the Escales Lyriques.

More recently the artist was all alone by herself on stage, in the contemporary opera by Leonard Evers Goud ! (Gold) atBrussels de Munt (October 2024). She then was the cover of Esmeralda and Lydia in the world premiere of  Fanny and Alexander by Mikael Karlsson and Royce Vavrek at  Brussels de Munt.  She also made her debut at Bozar in Brussels, singing the alto solo in Haendel’s Messiah, and at the Flanders Opera in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges as La Chatte, L’Ecureuil and Le Pâtre.

Upcoming plans include  the title role of L’Enfant et les sortilège , under the baton of Alain Altinoglu at Bozar, Die dritte Magd / Elektra in Metz and Danae / Medusa by Iain Bell (world premiere) and Tisbe / Cenerentola at Brussels De Munt
