Cumhur Görgün – Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Glyndebourne October 2026 – Reviews

Decked out in a Father Brown-esque black Cappello Romano hat and cassock, Turkish bass Cumhur Görgün brings a portentous edge to the character of the eminently corruptible music teacher Don Basilio. The slander aria ‘La calumnia è un venticello’ is delivered with verve and energy and watching a priest self-combust never gets old. London Unattached
Turkish bass Cumhur Görgün as Basilio delivers the scheming Don Basilio’s “La calunnia” with relish and a strong bass voice. Broadway World
Cumhur Görgün managed Basilio’s general confusion well, also relishing his smoke trick, whilst delivering the role with clarity of tone. Bachtrack
there’s good work, too, from Cumhur Görgün as the confused music teacher/priest, Basilio. TheStage
