Anthea Pichanik

Anthea Pichanick is the most prominent French contralto of the moment thanks to a unique vocal grain, a timbre of striking depth and a musicality combining refinement and intensity.

After winning First Prize at the prestigious Antonio Cest International Baroque Opera Competition in Innsbruck in 2015, she made her debut with L’Astrée at the Konzerthaus in Vienna, at the Beaune International Festival as Asteria / Tamerlano by Vivaldi, beginning of a faithful collaboration both with the Festival de Beaune and with Les Accents by Thibault Noally.

The following seasons have since been rich and eclectic : Händel’s Messiah at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées with Le Concert Spirituel and Hervé Niquet, Strauss’ Elektra at the Lyon Opera with Hartmut Haenchen, Vivaldi’s Tamerlano in Dortmund, the title role of Scarlatti’s Mitridate at the Beaune Festival, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with Le Poème Harmonique, Vincent Dumestre and Julia Lezhneva in Krakow, Mozart’s Requiem in Paris with Marc Minkowski, Händel’s Israel in Egypt with Les Siècles in Mexico, Zulma / Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri with Giuseppe Grazioli in Nancy, Fernando / Händel’s Rodrigo in Beaune.

Most recently, she sang the Christmas Oratorio with György Vashegyi (Budapest, Versailles, Paris), Mozart’s Requiem with the Gulbenkian Foundation and Lorenzo Viotti, Ménandre / Durón’s Coronis (Opera Comique in Paris, Caen, Lille Opera, Rouen, Limoges), Rodrigo at the Theater an der Wien, Rigoletto at the Montpellier Opera, Pénélope / Il Ritorno d’Ulisse by Monteverdi in Beaune.

Her discography includes a.o. Handel’s Messiah conducted by Hervé Niquet (Alpha Classics), a recital devoted to Neapolitan Motets with Les Accents and Thibault Noally (La Musica).
