Airam Hernandez

Spanish tenor Airam Hernández has established himself as one of the leading lyric tenors of his generation, acclaimed for the elegance of his phrasing, the warmth of his timbre and his refined musicianship. Equally at home in the Italian, French, German and Spanish repertoires, he has won particular acclaim for his portrayals of Pollione in Bellini’s Norma, Grigori in Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov, Leicester in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda and Erik in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer.

Recent engagements include his acclaimed debut as Don José in Bizet’s Carmen and Walter in Weinberg’s Die Passagierin at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Leicester in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda at the Teatro Real Madrid, Carlo VII in Verdi’s Giovanna d’Arco at Ópera de Tenerife, his first Wagner role as Erik in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Pollione in Bellini’s Norma at the Festival della Valle d’Itria, Ismaele in Verdi’s Nabucco at Opéra de Lausanne, Grigori in Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, as well as Azaël in Debussy’s L’Enfant prodigue. On the concert platform he has appeared in Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Mozart’s Requiem and Chausson’s Poème de l’amour et de la mer.

During the 2026/27 season, Airam Hernández makes a series of major  debuts : Roméo in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette at La Monnaie / De Munt in Brussels,  the title role in Wagner’s Lohengrin at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse and at Opera Tenerife, and Walther von der Vogelweide in Wagnert’s Tannhäuser at Teatro Real de Madrid.

Born in San Cristóbal de La Laguna (Tenerife), Airam Hernández began his international career as a member of the Opernhaus Zürich Opera Studio and ensemble. He has since appeared at many of the world’s leading opera houses and concert halls, including the Teatro Real Madrid, La Fenice in Venice, the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Opernhaus Zürich, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Teatro Regio di Parma, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Philharmonie de Paris, the Musikverein Wien and the Dallas Opera. He has collaborated with conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Teodor Currentzis, Fabio Luisi, Marco Armiliato, Ivor Bolton, Nello Santi and Pablo Heras-Casado.
