Alexandra Nowakowski

Praised by Opera News for her “impassioned singing”, Polish-American coloratura soprano Alexandra Nowakowski made an unexpected debut at The Metropolitan Opera on October 2025 as she stepped in for a sick Nadine Sierra as Amina / La Sonnambula.  « A triumph…The ovation for her was wild. » as Gramophone reported , with Ms Nowakowski spinning  « lovely pianissimo line »,  « easy and spotless high notes », « a hypnotically beautiful singing » and « a quite remarkable high F, a knockout punch of virtuosity ». 

This season, she also sings Gilda / Rigoletto with Ópera de Oviedo.

Recent credits include the Queen of the Night / The Magic Flute with the Orquestra Filarmónica del Mediterráneo, her debut in Oviedo as Massenet’s Manon, Zerbinetta / Ariadne auf Naxos and La Fée / Cendrillon by Viardot for Wolf Trap Opera, the cover of Olympia / Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Zerbinetta / Ariadne auf Naxos and Lucia di Lammermoor at the Met as well as Gilda / Rigoletto f for Los Angeles Opera.

A passionate ambassador of Polish art song, she brought mixed programs to various venues with Polish pianist Michał Biel, including the Palau de la Música, the Lied Festival Life Victoria, and Carnegie Hall’s Citywide Concert Series.

As a Cafritz Young Artist at the Washington National Opera for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, Ms. Nowakowski performed the roles of Papagena and the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute at the Kennedy Center, as well as the role of Anna Gomez in The Consul staged by Francesca Zambello.

Ms. Nowakowski’s recent orchestral debuts include Mozart’s Requiem with the Columbus Symphony, a NYE Concert with The Philadelphia Orchestra, and as Gilda / Rigoletto with the Verbier Festival, Bach’s B minor Mass with the Bach Society Houston.

Ms. Nowakowski was a First Prize winner in the Marcella Sembrich International Voice Competition and the Gerda Lissner Foundation Competition.
