Born in Paternò, Giuseppe Distefano graduated with
honours in 2011 from the Francesco Cilea Conservatory of
Reggio Calabria, in parallel to advanced violin studies.
In 2012 he won the First Prize and the “Cesare Valletti”
special Prize of the Spoleto international voice competition,
and subsequently made his operatic debut as Alfredo in
Verdi’s La Traviata.
Since then he has sung Rinuccio/Gianni Schicchi,
Ismaele/Nabucco, Macduff/Macbeth, Rodolfo/Boheme, Cavaradossi/Tosca,Radames/Aida, Calaf/Turandot, Turiddu/Cavalleria Rusticana, Canio/Pagliacci…
He has sung under the baton of conductors Antonio
Pappano, Riccardo Muti. Alessandro Palumbo, Francesco
Ivan Ciampa, Hirofumi Yoshida… and with directors Alice
Rohrwacher, Andrea Cigni, Enrico Castiglione, Alessio
Pizzech,Nicola Berloffa, Paolo Rossi…
He has appeared on the stages of the opera houses of
Spoleto, Como, Parma, Bologna, Brescia, Perugia,
Cremona, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia, Pavia, Livorno, Reggio
Calabria, Bergamo and at Taormina’s Antic Theatre.
Recently his career took him to Nagoya, Osaka, Tokyo’s
Bunka Kaikan, St Peterburg’s Hermitage, Beijing, Tianjing,
Shanghai and Suzhou. In the US, Giuseppe sang at San
Francisco’s Herbst Theatre and New York’s Alice Tully Hall
(with the New York City Opera conducted by Paul Nedler).
He is a laureate of many internaional voice competitions :
