Guadalupe Barrientos

A finalist in prestigious international competitions including the “BBC Cardiff Singer of the World” (2019), the “Montserrat Caballé International Competition” (2021) at the Liceu in Barcelona, Plácido Domingo’s “Operalia” (2019), and “Neue Stimmen” (2011), she was born in Buenos Aires and completed her studies at the Instituto Superior de Arte of the Teatro Colón and the Opera Studio of the Teatro Argentino de La Plata. She received scholarships from Julia Varady and the Institute for Dramatic Voices founded by Dolora Zajick.

Her repertoire includes roles such as Santuzza / Cavalleria Rusticana, Amneris / Aida, Ulrica /Un Ballo in Maschera, Dalila / Samson et Dalila, Principessa di Bouillon / Adriana Lecouvreur, Octavian / Der Rosenkavalier, Charlotte / Werther, Carmen, Adalgisa / Norma, Fricka  / Das Rheingold, Mère Marie de l’Incarnation / Dialogues des Carmélites, Fenena / Nabucco, Maddalena / Rigoletto), Suzuki / Madama Butterfly

She is a specialist in the symphonic repertoire, performing works such as Verdi’s Requiem, Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder,  Schönberg’s Gurre-Lieder , and Mahler’s 2nd, 3rd, and 8th Symphonies, as well as Das Lied von der Erde.

She made her debut at the Teatro Colón in 2012, starring in La Cenerentola, and has appeared on the stages of Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Tokyo, Teatro Lírico di Cagliari, Cankarjev Dom in Ljubljana, SNG Maribor, Opera de Tenerife, Municipal Theatre of Santiago de Chile, Teatro Municipal of Rio de Janeiro… She has been selected by the Musical Critics Association as “Best Argentine Singer” in 2024, 2021, and 2013.

Among her upcoming engagements, she will perform Stravinsky’s Les Noces alongside Martha Argerich and Charles Dutoit, and she will make her United States debut with the Richmond Symphony in Verdi’s Requiem. In Korea, she will appear as Ježibaba / Rusalka at the Seoul Arts Center, will sing Il Trittico at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and will perform The Flying Dutchman and Yerma at the Opera de Tenerife.
