French mezzo-soprano Julie Robard-Gendre has established herself as one of the leading dramatic mezzos of her generation, acclaimed for the richness of her voice, her commanding stage presence and the breadth of her repertoire, ranging from Mozart and French opera to Verdi, Wagner and contemporary works.
She recently garnered unanimous acclaim for her role and house debut as Venus in Tannhäuser with the Korea National Opera, her role debut as Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana with Opéra de Saint-Étienne, and as the Foreign Princess in Rusalka with Opéra de Massy.
Her upcoming engagements include Massenet’s Roma in Monte-Carlo and at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, her debut as Eboli in Verdi’s Don Carlos at Korea National Opera, Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni in Metz.
Other recent highlights include Nefertiti in Philip Glass’ Akhnaten at the Opéra de Nice, Sesto (La clemenza di Tito) at Angers Nantes Opéra, Marguerite (La Damnation de Faust) at the DomStufen-Festspiele Erfurt, Maddalena (Rigoletto) at the Festival Berlioz and in Bremen with Le Cercle de l’Harmonie, Meg Page (Falstaff) in Lille, Luxembourg and Caen, Carmen with the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Hérodias (Salome) in Metz, La Tragédie de Carmen on tour with Miroirs Étendus, La Mort de Cléopâtre in concert with Angers Nantes Opéra, and Perséphone in Massenet’s Ariane in Munich with Palazzetto Bru Zane, recorded with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks.
Among her recent role debuts are Gertrude in Hamlet for Angers Nantes Opéra and Opéra de Rennes, the title role in Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène at Opéra de Lausanne (after acclaimed performances in Rennes, Vichy and Avignon), and Dulcinée in Don Quichotte at Opéra de Tours.
Julie Robard-Gendre made her Paris Opéra debut in Les Huguenots and returned there as the Second Lady in Robert Carsen’s celebrated production of Die Zauberflöte. She also made a highly acclaimed role debut as Carmen at Opéra de Rennes, appeared as Ghita in Zemlinsky’s Der Zwerg in Lille, Rennes and Caen, made her Festival d’Aix-en-Provence debut as Ramiro (La finta giardiniera), broadcast live on ARTE, and sang Prince Raphaël in Offenbach’s La Princesse de Trébizonde at Opéra de Limoges.
Her extensive repertoire also includes Orphée (Orphée et Eurydice), Prince Charmant (Cendrillon), Olga (Eugene Onegin), Fenena (Nabucco), and the Kitchen Boy in Rusalka at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, reflecting a career distinguished by stylistic versatility and compelling dramatic artistry.
