Belgian baritone Kamil Ben Hsaïn Lachiri is celebrated for the beauty of his timbre, his charismatic stage presence and his exceptional dramatic instinct, he has already distinguished himself in Mozart, French repertoire and contemporary music on many of Europe’s leading opera stages.
Following his acclaimed debut as Leporello at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Classic Toulouse praised “the magnificent Leporello sung by Kamil Ben Hsaïn Lachiri,” describing “a voice of remarkable evenness, a rich, velvety, sunlit timbre” and concluding that “he creates a complex, endearing, profoundly human Leporello that has already etched itself into our memories.”
Born into an Italian-Moroccan family in Namur, Belgium, Kamil Ben Hsaïn Lachiri first trained as a pianist before discovering his passion for singing at the Conservatory of Namur. This instrumental background continues to inform his highly musical approach to vocal interpretation and repertoire.
A laureate of La Monnaie / De Munt in Brussels, he maintains a close relationship with the company while pursuing an increasingly international career. He has appeared on many of Europe’s leading stages, including the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki, the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Opéra National de Normandie Rouen, the opera houses of Lille, Dijon, Aachen and Frankfurt, among others.
Recent highlights include two major role debuts at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse as Papageno in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and Leporello in Don Giovanni, both enthusiastically received by audiences and critics alike. Other recent engagements include the baritone solo in Ligeti’s Nouvelles Aventures at the Oper Frankfurt, and the roles of L’Horloge Comtoise and Le Chat in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les sortilèges at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo.
Baroque music occupies a central place in his artistic identity. Having begun his career with the Centre d’Art Vocal et de Musique Ancienne de Namur, he has collaborated with many leading specialists of historically informed performance, notably appearing under the direction of Jordi Savall, whose influence has further deepened his stylistic versatility.
An award-winning young artist, Kamil Ben Hsaïn Lachiri is a laureate of the Voix Nouvelles Competition and has also won both the Honda Competition and the Voice of Shakespeare Competition. Alongside his musical training, he earned university degrees in Economics and Finance, reflecting the intellectual curiosity that complements his artistic development.
Combining vocal elegance, refined musicianship and exceptional theatrical flair, Kamil Ben Hsaïn Lachiri is rapidly establishing himself as one of the most distinctive young baritones on the European operatic scene, with a repertoire that naturally spans Mozart, French opera, Baroque music and contemporary creation.
