Louis de Lavignère
Franco-Spanish bass-baritone Louis de Lavignère has established himself as one of the most charismatic young singing actors of his generation. Combining a warm, youthful voice with exceptional stage presence and a natural gift for comedy, he has rapidly become a sought-after interpreter of the Mozart, Rossini and French repertoires, while continuing to expand towards the major lyric bass-baritone roles.
His relationship with the operatic stage began at an early age when, as a member of the children’s chorus of the Opéra national de Paris, he appeared at the Opéra Bastille as one of the Three Boys in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and as the Shepherd in Puccini’s Tosca. This early immersion in the operatic world laid the foundations for a career that would later be further shaped through his membership of the prestigious Opéra de Lyon Opera Studio, where he refined both his vocal technique and his dramatic artistry.
Recent engagements have taken him to many of Europe’s leading opera houses. Highlights include Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen in The Hague, Schaunard in Puccini’s La bohème in Nancy, Caen, Dijon, Reims and Luxembourg, Masetto in Don Giovanni with ARCAL at the Théâtre de l’Athénée in Paris, Capulet in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette and Dulcamara in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore in Bordeaux, Offenbach’s Le Roi Carotte and Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel at the Opéra National de Lyon, Fiorello in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, as well as in Dortmund, Bremen and at the Edinburgh International Festival, and Ravel’s L’Enfant et les sortilèges at both the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and the Beijing Concert Hall. He has also appeared with the Orchestre National de Lyon, further broadening his concert repertoire.
Mozart occupies a particularly important place in his artistic identity. Equally convincing as Don Giovanni, Leporello, Papageno and Masetto, he has demonstrated a rare ability to combine vocal elegance with instinctive comic timing and dramatic depth, making him one of the most promising bass-baritones of his generation in the Mozart repertoire.
Highlights of the upcoming season include a return to one of his signature roles as Papageno in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Ravenna Festival, in a production directed by Chiara Muti.
Alongside his operatic career, Louis de Lavignère is an accomplished concert performer. His repertoire includes Fauré’s Requiem, performed in both France and Japan, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria and Verdi’s Requiem. Recent appearances include the Fonds Tutti Gala Concert at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, where he shared the stage with artists such as Benjamin Bernheim, Philippe Jaroussky, Sabine Devieilhe and Clémentine Margaine, Malatesta in Don Pasquale at the Château de Salveilles, and Sacchini’s Chimène ou le Cid with Julien Chauvin and Le Concert de la Loge.
Beyond the operatic stage, Louis de Lavignère has also appeared in cinema, starring in Claude Zidi Jr.’s feature film Tenor, further illustrating the dramatic versatility and natural screen presence that distinguish his artistic profile.
