Rémi Durupt
French conductor Rémi Durupt has rapidly established himself as one of the leading conductors of his generation, equally at home in the symphonic, operatic and contemporary repertoire. Recognised for his stylistic versatility and his commitment to today’s music, he first came to international attention by winning the First Prize at the 2021 Antal Doráti International Conducting Competition in Budapest, following his victory at the 2018 Giancarlo Facchinetti International Conducting Competition in Brescia.
A laureate of the Peter Eötvös Foundation Mentoring Programme and the Art Mentor Foundation Lucerne, he worked closely with Peter Eötvös as assistant conductor with both the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic, experiences that profoundly shaped his artistic development.
Since then, Rémi Durupt has conducted orchestras including the Orchestre National d’Île-de-France, Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Paris, Danubia Orchestra Óbuda, Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau, Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, Toulouse Wind Orchestra, as well as many of Europe’s foremost contemporary ensembles, among them Ensemble Linea, Ars Nova, Multilatérale, UMZE, Dedalo and Impronta.
A passionate advocate of contemporary music, he co-founded Ensemble LINKS, with which he has recorded three critically acclaimed albums for Kairos. Their recording devoted to the music of Steve Reich received the prestigious Diapason d’Or, confirming the ensemble’s place among today’s leading interpreters of contemporary repertoire.
Recent highlights include his debut with the Orchestre national de Metz Grand Est in programmes featuring Beethoven, Prokofiev and Unsuk Chin, the Orchestre National d’Île-de-France at the Théâtre du Châtelet alongside Angélique Kidjo, Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians, Gail’s La Sérénade in Rennes, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with the Orchestre de Chambre de la Drôme, Fauré’s Requiem with the Orchestre d’Épinal, Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker with the Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg, Stravinsky’s Les Noces in Angelin Preljocaj’s ballet production, the world premieres of Les Sauvages by Hazebrouck and La Vieille Maison by Landowsky, as well as Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress at Angers Nantes Opéra, a production awarded Best Opera Production of the Year by the French critics. With the Orchestre National de Bretagne, he also conducted the world premiere of Dai Fujikura’s Concerto for Shakuhachi, alongside works by Mendelssohn, Jean Cras and Grace Williams.
Future engagements include concerts with the Orchestre National d’Île-de-France alongside Keziah Jones at La Seine Musicale, appearances with the Orchestre Colonne, Ars Nova, Ensemble LINKS, the Alba Regia Symphony Orchestra and Ensemble Multilatérale…
In 2026, Rémi Durupt will also serve as a member of the jury of the Geneva International Conducting Competition, further confirming his growing recognition on the international conducting scene.
