Zachary McCulloch

Zachary McCulloch is a New Zealand–born tenor steadily establishing himself on the European stage.

He has made debuts with leading companies including Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Opéra National du Capitole de Toulouse, Festival della Valle d’Itria, Festival Castel Artes, Landestheater Linz, Opera Australia, State Opera of South Australia, and Victorian Opera.

His repertoire spans Mozart, bel canto, and French opera, with roles including Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Nadir (Les pêcheurs de perles), Oronte (Alcina), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), and Gualtiero (Il pirata). Alongside his operatic work, he maintains an active concert career, performing repertoire such as Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, Haydn’s Große Orgelsolomesse, and Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël.

He trained at the Accademia di Bel Canto “Rodolfo Celletti” in Italy, ICAV in Montreal, and the Canto Vocal Program in the United States and Romania, and was a studio artist with State Opera South Australia (2021–2022).

Recent and upcoming engagements include the Fourth Jew (Salome) at Opéra National du Capitole de Toulouse, Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) with Orchestra Victor Hugo, Il Conte Almaviva (Barbiere di Siviglia) with Opéra de Toulon, and Laertes (Hamlet) at the Auditorio de Tenerife (2027).

He has collaborated with conductors and directors including Fabio Luisi, Julien Duval, Joseph Swensen, Francesco Angelico, Johannes Reitmeier, Frédérique Lombard, Victorien Vanoosten, Francesco Lanzillotta, Rita Cosentino and Nicola Raab. A graduate of the University of Melbourne and a semi-finalist in the Vincero Competition in Verona, he continues to develop his career across Europe, Australasia and further afield.
